Hello. Well it's been a whole week since I've blogged! Time has gone very fast indeed.
Last weekend lots of people descended on Exeter.
First of all was Gavin Merrifield, resplendent with his haircut from the ironbutcher. On Friday evening, Rosie and I went to the Imperial with him and Rebekah for dinner. I had Chicken Tikka Masala, to break away from my traditional choices. It was very good, and I will definitely get it again.
After this Rosie and I decided to go and find friends who had gone for a drink in town and on the quay, but on the way the car died. It kept flooding. The same thing happened to me a few months ago. It cut out on Rosie once too, but not for so long. We sort of pushed it and got it started though.
Saturday morning - I got up late. In fact, I didn't get up. I was at Rosie's for around 13.30. Tim Crow showed up out of the blue almost as soon as I arrived. Hadn't seen him for well over a year.
Rosie's family arrived 2 minutes after Tim. It was all go. I kept feeling the need (but restraining myself) from saying the word that things around me reminded me of, having spent about 4 hours playing online pictionary the night before. Luncheon was a rustic affair. I had scrambled egg and a vegetarian penguin. Rosie's Dad, Tom, liked driving around the alleyways behind Rosie's house, and found the way lots of the roads had the word Monk in quite amusing. We went into town in the afternoon. It hadn't changed much, although the pavement relaying had progressed a bit. Good to see. We went to the quay, and went to the cafe in the antiques centre.
In the evening we went to The Three Horseshoes (I think that's it's name). I had the carvery, and it was pretty spectacular.
On Sunday morning was Rosie's baptism. A relatively very early start was called for. I was up and aboutish soon after 10am, and set off pretty early. Rebekah and Gavin drove past me when I was near Belmont, but stopped to give me a lift all the same. Lots of people had gathered outside when I got there. A veritible crowd. There was Rosie's family, Mark, Gavin and Rebekah and inside were my parents. After a coffee (for those who like a bit) we went into the main hall and found some seats. I thought it was a good service. I was quite nervous, even though I wasn't being baptised. Lots of Rosie's friends had turned up. Tim, Jon and Su, old housemates were there, as well as Margaret and Bruce from home. I like the name Bruce. However, Derek didn't say his immortal line when he introduced himself, which Gavin and I were dissappointed about.
Quite a few of us went to Pizza Hut afterwards. We were there quite a while - certainly one of my longest Pizza Hut visits. This was partly due to the fact it took literally 30 minutes for us to get out of the car park! We watched as Rosie's family drove off relatively quickly. Watched my parents cut a path through the peasants' cars, and then spent another 10 minutes queuing. Vive la France!
In the evening, I went to the Eagle with Mark. It was pretty good, and amazingly, the pint of Stella I got (wasn't concentrating when I ordered) was nice!
